Internship Diaries – Nathan Peter Rodriguez, BCG, Summer’21

“If your dreams don’t scare you, they aren’t big enough.”

Qualifying the Chartered Accountancy examinations and having worked at EY for four years (including a 3-year internship), I thought I had seen it all… Till the Term-1 bomb dropped. A hectic academic schedule, SAC Committee & Club selections, Pre-placement talks, Summer prep sessions, time was a scarce commodity that we couldn’t afford to lose. However, through this mania, I emerged stronger- learning to prioritize tasks and effectively manage time.

Life at IIM Indore has been nothing short of living the dream. The campus will leave you in awe of its grandeur – with its majestic academic block and picturesque views. I have met some of the brightest minds that have challenged me intellectually. The long midnight walks along the periphery were the highlight of my first year. The memories here will surely last a lifetime.

An MBA at IIM Indore offers you a plethora of opportunities for personal growth and development, and one such opportunity is the summer internship. I was fortunate enough to get an offer from BCG during summer placements.

It has been almost a month since I joined BCG. My project is in the Industrial Goods sector. The journey has been a roller-coaster ride – from setting up meetings with top management to preparing fancy client decks. Despite the virtual setting, I never felt like I was missing out on the “consulting life.” The support system (project team, BCG resources, capability teams, etc.) is so strong that I could get up to speed real fast despite working in a completely unfamiliar sector.

As I look back, I notice a difference in my thought process and approach to solving problems. The “So-What?” approach at BCG forces you to question your findings and leads to you think in a holistic manner that aims to create an impact through problem-solving.

I would have never thought that I could make it this far, but it all started with a dream. So, keep dreaming big!!
